We will Provide an awesome lunch from Fan Tang! Event Schedule Below!
Shawn Thomas, BMW Motorrad Brand Ambassador and Louise Powers, BMW Motorrad Brand Expert, have traveled a combined 40 years and 40 countries on BMW GSs. As off-road instructors they have taught more than 10,000 people how to handle big adventure motorcycles in the wild. Shawn and Louise make it their business to entertain, educate and inspire other riders to get out and enjoy adventure motorcycles and the adventure community the way they get to every day.
RIDING GEAR AND WHAT MAKES IT WORK FOR YOU
THIS AIN’T YOUR GRANDMA’S FASHION SHOW. While we all know wearing motorcycle gear makes us look like real motorcycle riders – it does make us look cool, after all – we also know it is protective and a must in both on and off-road riding situations. But what makes appropriate gear so important? Hey, what even makes it appropriate? How well is it actually protecting you? Shawn and Louise come with years of knowledge in the motorcycle gear world and one of them even has a background in apparel design and technology – you guess which one! They will take you through choosing the right gear for your ride and even let you in on some of the insider industry secrets as to how and why riders’ gear is made the way it is.
SUSPENSION: EVOLUTIONS AND MODERN TECHNOLOGY
BOUNCY-BOUNCY! Suspension has always played a critical role in Motorcycling and—until recently—has changed very little. These days, there are many new and interesting innovations that have allowed these components to work more intuitively and effectively for you. This presentation focuses on suspension fundamentals, evolutions such as Auto-Leveling, Dynamic Damping, and Height adjustments that accommodate both taller and inseam-challenged riders. We know suspension can seem like a bit of a dark art and a bit confusing, so Shawn and Louise aim to take you from basics to high-level knowledge in the span of one cup of coffee!
BRAKES: ABS, INTEGRAL BRAKING, USAGE ON-ROAD VS. OFF-ROAD.
HOW DO YOU STOP THIS THING?? Brakes are (hopefully) one of the first parts of a motorcycle we learn to use. As our skills develop, so do our braking techniques (again, hopefully…). But what has changed in braking in recent years and how do we use these features effectively to keep our performance and safety at top levels? In this presentation we cover the beginnings of ABS Brakes, how this technology has evolved to ABS PRO, and what changes in Off-Road braking vs. On-Road. If you’re extra nerdy about braking like Shawn and Louise are, stick around to learn about some of the newest technology: Partial vs. Fully-Integral Brakes, why they exist and what they offer to you.
F900GS and what’s new! NEW TECHNOLOGY: ASA AND ADAPTIVE VEHICLE HEIGHT CONTROL
THE LATEST AND GREATEST. No, we are not speaking of Shawn Thomas and Louise Powers, but they will take you through some of the newest technology, how it works, and whether it’s a good fit for you. Are you an early adopter of new technology or someone willing to try new things? Automated Shift Assist is here on the new 1300 models and is making quite a splash. But there are multiple ways to utilize this one single piece of tech and a lot to learn about how to operate it and how it functions in relation to other tech found on these bikes. Likewise, Adaptive Vehicle Height Control is a huge win for riders everywhere – though especially with the ones who come with an abbreviated inseam. Shawn and Louise talk about how this tech works, what to expect when riding with it, and the bonus features it brings to the table you might not know about.
ADVENTURE FUNDAMENTALS OFF-ROAD RIDING CLINIC, for those who are interested in taking the leap into the offroad world!
Taking a ‘big’ bike off-road—especially for the first time—is made infinitely easier with training, at least according to Shawn and Louise (both have harrowing tales of their first rides in dirt, both without proper training!). That’s why this team of experienced adventure riders have helped thousands of new to advanced riders take their skills to the next level. This course will focus on the basics of adventure riding; Balance, Braking, Clutch, Throttle and Body Movement. In just a few hours Shawn and Louise will leave you feeling ready to tackle new terrain, explore the backcountry and get a little dust and grime on that shiny adventure bike of yours!Â
